The Chippy Sauce Map

The Chippy Sauce Map

South East Scotland is home to many unique, marvelous things, and here at adopted domain, a slightly inebriated kitchen table char led us into a discussion about one of these marvelous things - Chippy sauce.

Not just brown sauce, not just vinegar, Chippy Sauce is a unique condiment proffered by takeaways in the region as an ideal accompaniment to, say a wee deep fried pizza supper (pictured). Ideally, the sauce should be served from an old glass Irn Bru bottle, with holes pricked into the top. I believe that this lends something extra to the taste.

Anyway, it dawned on us, and indeed many other people that I've spoken too since, that no-one really know the geographical limits of this fine foodstuff. So we're trying to map it, but we need your help.

How to do a Chippy Sauce Survey

  1. Enter Chippy and order a meal of your choosing, nothing to fancy mind. Take note of name and address of chippy.
  2. Check out the counter - is there chippy sauce there? If not, take a note.
  3. If there is Chippy Sauce there - do they just assume you'll want it? Or do you have to specifically request it? Take a note of this.
  4. Lastly, when you eat your delicious dinner, is the sauce the real deal?
  5. Decide which category of chippy your dinner fits into. There are three on the map. Chippies that have sauce, and assume you'll have it. Chippies that have sauce, but you have to request it and lastly, chippies that don't have the sauce.
  6. Contact me to tell me about your survey. Which category was your chippy in, what date did you go, and don't forget to tell me as much as you can about it's name and address.

But where is the Chippy Sauce Map?

The Chippy Sauce Map is here.

I know - we need more surveys.
