Are you suffering from ecorexia?
Monday, August 18, 2008 at 08:48PM Could you be suffering from Ecorexia? Psychologists, bewildered by increasing numbers of people self refering to them with inexplicable mood swings have coined the term to describe an identifiably new set of symptoms . One minute sufferers are healthy individuals, passionately playing active roles in their local community - the next they are overcome with guilt, anger, depression, or severe feelings of self loathing that may even affect their desire to procreate.
Mrs Hairy Legs, of Stinkhampton was one of the first to be identified with the disease. 'At first I thought it was radiation from my newly acquired mobile phone, but then I realised that actually it got worse when one of the main political parties made an environmental announcement. In Scotland, we've been told to 'do a little, change a lot' but nothing seemed to me to be changing. The SNP asked us to sign up to the 10 steps and I signed up to all of them. I changed my lightbulbs, I bought a bike, I denied myself meat - turning vegetarian three years ago, insulated my house, and started buying veggies from the local organic farm, but still I found the news more and more depressing. Why weren't they doing it themselves?"
Mrs Hairy Legs had no-one to turn to, and so the fear and the helplessness began to take it's toll. "I shut myself away, and couldn't understand why everyone seemed to be able to carry on regardless in their climate wrecking 4x4's. I found it hard to go outside, and eventually I gave up. I decided I couldn't justify ever having children, given the damage human beings were doing to the world, I started self harming, just like everyone else seemed to be doing."
Fortunately, green activists found Mrs Hairy Legs before it was too late. There is only one cure for this terrible disease. Vote Green.
